About

I’m Stephan, father of two daughters living in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. My journey into IT started in the 1980s with a Texas Instrument TI-99/4A which I used to learn (TI extended) BASIC. It continued with PCs, starting with a no-name 8088 up to my current system, which has an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU, 80GB DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU—running Windows 11.

Of course, I also run a couple of Linux servers for local GenAI models, email servers, and many other programs, mostly running as Docker containers. The first laptop I owned was actually a Mac, an iBook G3 Dual USB (“Snow”) from 2001, which is actually still working. ;)

I’m not only responsible for my small home lab but also built large networks and server infrastructures at FH Wiener Neustadt and oversaw the entire IT department at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA).

Music plays a big role in my life; in the 90s, I did a lot of DJing in different pubs in Wiener Neustadt. In the 2000s, I started playing drums. Currently, I play with my bandmates from Sirene Frischa and Taste The Pure. For almost 15 years, a huge group of friends ran https://schmu.at, an open-air concert in Wiener Neustadt. I was responsible for all the technical stuff there.

Besides these activities, I really enjoy riding my bicycle (also to work), going for a swim, and generally walking around and going for hikes. Reading books and watching series is something I do to relax at home, as well as playing computer games. Cooking and sometimes trying to bake complete my hobbies—for now.
